I’m becoming more and more a huge fan of tonkatsu. So I wanna try more and more restaurants whenever I’m in Tokyo. Tonki has always been on my radar and I finally had a chance to check it out for dinner. I was surprised how many seats this place has. It’s huge and the kitchen is rather spacious. It’s got a pretty chill vibe as everyone is sitting together. I ended up getting the hire katsu meal and the quality of pork was good. It tasted even better with the Chinese mustard sauce. The coating on their pork cutlet is some of the lightest I’ve ever had. All in all it was a very good meal and I’m glad to have finally tried it.
We were recommended by different people. Sort of family business with very limited menu. 3 dishes. Classic one bar kitchen front restaurant, but cool concept. Rice and cabbage all you can eat. Definitely a must
To be honest, I waited in a long line, and while the food was good, it wasn’t worth the wait. The atmosphere was local, and they fry the food right in front of you, which was nice, but I’ve had better tonkatsu at other places. Also, the staff’s attitude wasn’t very friendly, which was a bit disappointing.
I ordered a special rice set and pork chop curry rice The thick and flexible pork chops in the fried pork chop set meal, paired with fresh, sweet, and light eggs and sweet sauce onions, immediately amazed me! Curry is salty, while pork chops are slightly thinner compared to the former, and when paired with fragrant rice, they are particularly appetizing Delicious beyond expectations!
