This is NOT a French restaurant. Chef Namai makes his own original cuisine. Ode is a playful restaurant where you will taste new and unusual flavors; you might even giggle along the way because of the chef's creativity. My all time favorite dish is always "gray" covered with sardine meringue. The ingredients change slightly each time, but the meringue chips remain a constant. The whole dish just works so well. The all gray decor is simple and attractive, and the staff is attentive and dedicated. Go!
Thoroughly enjoyed the experience from start to finish. The service was exceptional and each dish was carefully crafted to display certain characteristics that the chef wanted the patrons to experience. Interesting option of a tea pairing where they use Taiwanese teas. Highly recommended and you can understand why it has received numerous awards.
We had an amazing lunch at Ode in December 2022. Everything was first class. It was no. 20 on Best Asian list in 2022. In 2023 it is not in the top 100. There is good reason for that. Now it is only open for dinner. (contrary to info on website) I suspect a change in philosophy or management. There is a post on website referring to the chef having severe injuries from a car accident in mid 2023. That is very sad. I suspect this could be the cause of the major change in the restaurant. The website looks like it was two years ago with photos of dishes I suspect are no longer served. There were only eight diners served by two staff, one of whom was the chef. The atmosphere was terrible. The food was not worth 20,000 Yen. Very disappointing. Avoid at all costs.
This is a great restaurant with great service, but I have to give just three out of five because you can easily find better high class restaurants in Tokyo. Sadly, Ode is not worth the price.
