If you are a person who likes dramatically luxurious place which serves ultra processed food in the name of cuisine……then definitely Suruchi is not a place for you! Avoid it! Suruchi is medium sized cozy place with heritage vibes which offers meals same like your neighbour Bengali aunt will offer you when you visit her. Authentic food served nicely without any drama. It’s down-to-earth place where the lady comes to you and ask for your order very politely based on your food preferences. Suruchi is a restaurant maintained and run by women self-help group! Do visit here and enjoy the typical Bengali heritage ambience. Totally worthy experience. Note: Keep an open mind when you visit them as they are not professional-hotel management school passed out people.
We visited here to support the local NGO. The prices were definitely on the higher side. Unfortunately, the staff didn't understand English well, making it difficult to communicate our orders. This resulted in us receiving the wrong dishes and paying more than intended. However, I did enjoy their mutton curry—it tasted good, tasted like home cooked ! On the other hand, the lassi tasted strange, very sour, and I couldn't finish it.
Suruchi food is delicious, authentic Bengali food and the fish dishes are particularly good. The restaurant is in the grounds of the very reputable All Bengal Womens Union, a fantastic organisation which, among other things, runs a home for abused girls. Most of the staff are ex-ABWU residents who still live there and they are friendly even if most don't speak much English. You don't just get a very enjoyable meal when you eat here, you are also contributing to a very worthwhile organisation. Do try it!
Ambience: Typical Bengali seat down dining, satisfactory spacing. Managed by women staff only. Simple yet warm. Quality of Service: Fair to Good depending on guest volumes and week end rush. Exhibits warmth and care of a typical Bengali lady at a food table. Food: Good. Richness of taste complemented well by home-made cooking efficiency. Overall: Do visit for good food in a modest surrounding.
