A friend and I booked the 10 course meal. It was one of the best meals of our lives! The food was amazing, the guide was so friendly and charismatic, watching the chefs work was so entertaining. We were beyond satisfied by course 5 but made ourselves continue. The chef even accommodated a vegetarian. Definitely book this - you won’t regret it!
We had dinner at Black Sesame Kitchen and after traveling the world this was by far the best unexpected surprise! I knew very little about BSK when I made the reservation (must have!) and we were in awe of the dinner. 10 course meal, every one of them delicious. Wonderful hosts, in an intimate setting (only the two of us, and a party of 6). Was able to get a tour of the hutong and watch Master Zhang do his magic at the wok. It was incredible! I’d come back to Beijing just to experience dinner here again!
The 10 plate dinner that we had was magnificent, an absolute treat! The food was so fresh and tasty, delicious! The experience was made all the more special by the genuinely warm and welcoming hospitality from the host and chef. This was the highlight of our short trip to Beijing. Highly recommended!
I dropped into the Black Sesame Kitchen on the 25th of August to say "hello", as it has been one of my favourite restaurants. I was there five times previously, and had happy memories. I was delighted that they were able to seat me without a reservation (highly recommended/maybe essential, as seating is limited). Unlike most restaurants, seating is communal, that is, all diners share a table. I was treated to a delicious 10 course meal, complemented with red wine. Each dish highlighted the cuisine from one of the regions of China. The courses were prepared from the open kitchen, where I could both watch the chef and see what he was doing in a mirror above the cooking area. Every dish was delicious and prepared with very high quality ingredients. The host was friendly, welcoming and personable. And my conversations with other diners were also enjoyable. I was very happy to see that the Black Sesame Kitchen was able to survive through the stressful period of the pandemic. I hope to return again when I visit Beijing. If you are lucky enough to get a reservation, then be sure to note the address as the entrance is non-descript.
