Amazing service as soon as you walk through the door. Very attentive with our needs. The food is exceptional, well deserved for the bib gourmand. We sat outside in the sun in November so the only drawback was the flies by the tree - but I can't fault the restaurant for this!
It's surprising that the restaurant has average reviews. The interior and exterior of the building are incredibly beautiful, unusual and laconic. The waiters are polite and take into account your wishes. We ordered oysters with mango and meat sandwiches for an appetizer. The oyster sauce is excellent, but the mango filling is not for everyone, but I really liked it. We also took two drinks each. The drinks here are interesting and beautifully presented. We also had lobster pasta and duck leg for main course. I was absolutely delighted with the pasta, and the duck fell off the bone on its own. I especially recommend the pasta. The desserts are also interesting. I liked that there was ice cream hidden in the meringue. All dishes were brought quickly. I was left with a very pleasant impression, thanks to the staff and the chef!
We booked very last minute and had a great table in front of the kitchen. I had a tuna tartare and the pork which were both superb. Service was fantastic and the bill was very reasonable.
I was very excited to try Zunzum because of it's Michelin recommendation but was overall disappointed with the experience. We ordered the bread with butter and a chorizo spread. The chorizo and butter were both delicious but the traditional Portuguese bread was very stale and the corn bread was nothing special. For starters we had the tuna tartar tartlet and the mini roast beef sandwich, both were excellent dishes with interesting flavor combos that were delightful. The other two starters we ordered, oysters and lamb, were not available that day. We weren't told this when we ordered. Instead a wait person came out twice to tell us first there were no oysters and then again that there was no lamb. For main course we had the lobster and clam pasta and the charcoal grilled octopus. The pasta was so chewy it was inedible and there were 3 dime size pieces of lobster and very few clams on top of the pasta. I ate what little seafood there was and left all of the pasta and flavorless sauce. I was not asked if there was a problem because the food had clearly not been eaten. The octopus on the other main dish was overcooked and rubbery. It was difficult to cut, much less chew. The broccoli mash on this plate was the star. So, while the tuna tartlet and roast beef sandwich were both wonderful, everything else was not. They need to work on more consistency with their dishes. Inedible pasta and octopus should never leave their kitchen.
