I had the pleasure of dining at Anan Saigon, and it truly lived up to its Michelin-star reputation. From the moment I stepped in, the ambiance was modern yet warm, with a vibrant energy that added to the experience. The food was simply exceptional. Each dish was a delightful combination of traditional Vietnamese flavors and contemporary culinary techniques. The signature dishes were standouts—perfectly executed, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavors that were both familiar and innovative. The service was impeccable. The staff was knowledgeable, attentive, and made excellent recommendations, ensuring that every aspect of our meal was seamless.
Anna Saigon was a fantastic experience and definitely worth the price. The food was magnificent—rich in flavor and beautifully prepared. However, one waitress seemed a bit frustrated when I had trouble understanding her, even after she repeated herself a few times, and her impatience was a bit off-putting. While it didn’t detract significantly from the experience given the value, it did affect the overall vibe. When I asked her for a wine recommendation, she seemed uncertain, so we ended up choosing from the recommended list ourselves. Overall, though, the quality of the food and the ambiance made for a memorable visit, and I would still recommend it for a delicious dining experience at a great price.
From start to finish a culinary experience not to be missed. Went for the tasting menu and each course was explained well and totally different. Various drinks with different courses made it a very memorable evening. I was a bit surprised when my bill arrived and I asked was the “SVC” service charge? To be told it was to cover breakages!!
Looking forward to this treat for Christmas eve after making reservations nearly 2 months in advance, as visiting Michellin star restaurants around the world is one of my husband and my favorite adventures. Service was excellent, staff prompt, efficient, friendly. However, the chef's tasting menu was a series of 11 dishes in a row, each showcased in a dramatic, visual spectacle without the actual taste to back them up. Pouring consume from a clear glass teapot through fresh herbs is stunning, as is a half egg stuffed with caviar in a bed of grass. However, this is visual art, one would expect the one bite to be an amazing burst of flavors to match the eye, and this was not. Each course was worse than the last, with an overuse of smoke and charcoal, gimmicks that cannot replace true flavor of delicious ingredients. The bland, mushy turmeric rice under duck dumpling was inedible. Hoping for a palate cleanser with a dessert course of coconut icecream with a fish sauce caramel seemed promising, until discovering, no ice cream at all, but a warm, tasteless spoonful of something the exact consistency of marshmallow cream out of a jar. This was served with a Chanel styled glass bottle of Umami 'perfume' to spritz on, with the added remark from the wait person "we'll leave the bottle here, so you can take a picture". So really, all a show, for the Instagram crowd, without originality of herbs, spices or fresh ingredients that ought to be the star of the show in good cuisine. Calling out Obama and Anthony Bourdain's television experience in one of the menu descriptions was name dropping at its worst, considering it had nothing to do with this restaurant. Go for the camera shots, but don't expect to be delighted by taste. The backstreets of Saigon, have this well taken care of, and where I recommend you spend your time, and where the same 400$ would delight your tastebuds for a month.
