This is a sleek Asian-styled bar that would remind you of a place from a cool anime. Nice aesthetic with the best Ramen dishes I've had so far. The Taipei curry chicken is very crispy and flavorful I was impressed. The pork dumplings I had were stir fry and it's definitely the way to go. Great cloud shrimp. Try the sake flights they are also good 👍🏾 Even as a small place its a good vibe
Came here since it was named Washington’s best ramen 2024. Was a little disappointed. The food was great. But the service always affects my experience with the food. Let’s talk about the food first. - Karaage: GREAT, especially considering it’s only $8. I liked the sauce, but my partner unfortunately did not. We both agreed the chicken was juicy and loved the crispiness of the fried chicken. - Classic and Curry Ramen: I enjoyed the classic. The onsen egg was perfect, and the meat was on point, a good amount too. The broth was a little plain, but the noodles were perfect. My partner enjoyed the Curry Ramen but wished he got the classic. Okay, service experience. - we were seated 30 minutes before our reservation (good) - the seating is very crammed, but it only bothered us a little - I asked my server if I could get my toppings on the side since I’ve had too much ramen ruined by whatever toppings are thrown on there. He says “that’s tedious”…okay? - 18% service fee when paying - he snorted when I asked for a to go box and didn’t want the side dishes in the to go box. I don’t know why my side dish situation affected him so much. - he packaged the to go box very neatly though (separated broth and noodles) 8/10 food, 6/10 experience. Not bad at all, just would not go out of my way to come back here again.
Excellent food. Fresh noodles with UNBELIEVABLE broth. Tiny place; wait downstairs with a cocktail until seating is available. Worth the wait!
Do not go to Toki Underground. Bad neighborhood, mediocre food & 18% mandatory gratuity added. First, Toki Underground is located in a bad neighborhood. We were followed by a crazy man who kept yelling behind us as we were about to enter the restaurant. The food at Toki Underground is below average. The food is a 4 out of 10. The ramen is not authentic at all. The cooks spoke Spanish and not Japanese. The noodles are rubbery. The ramen broth of the Toki Class ramen lacks flavor, while the Kimchi Ramen broth is super salty. If you want good ramen try Ichiran (but I don't think Washington DC has Ichiran). Also, the hostess/waitress kept rushing us. She called us to see where we were at. Then she said we only have 1.5 hours to eat. When she gave our bill she said an automatic 18% gratuity was already added to the bill. This 18% was never mentioned when we made the reservation or on their website. This is illegal practice. The food, service and ambiance is below par. Toki Underground does not deserve a Michelin Gourmand designation.
