Had a great time here. Was really surprised by the quality of the food and service. Very well done menu, lots of creative and fresh options with all sorts of different proteins (meat, fish, chicken). They do not have a kids menu but they do accommodate kids and can whip up butter noodles, chicken strips, etc. My 6 year had the fish and chips which he loved, we split it and was a perfect serving along with an appetizer. Staff were super friendly, attentive with their service, never had to ask for more drinks, water, or anything. They never rushed us, we were able to enjoy our food and the great view of the river. Well done wine list with great WA wine such as long shadows and other regions. Full bar with creative cocktails and high quality mixers, such as Topo Chico sparkling water and fever tree Ginger Beer. Really well done. It’s a drive for us, but we are already planning a return trip to stay at the hotel and enjoy it more. Highly recommend if you are trying to find something more higher end food wise with a laid back experience, which is hard to find in eastern/central WA.
Excellent cuisine and service again! This is about my third time here after driving Yakima, Washington but we live in Hawaii. We love the atmosphere right along the beautiful Yakima River just makes it even more worth the beautiful drive. I wish I could remember our waitress name to give a shout out ... I think her name begins with an "M" but she is friendly, fast , and accommodating with helping suggest excellent choices. We also were lucky on a slow Sunday early evening to just walk in and get a window seat.
Anytime we're east of the Cascades, we always try to stop at Canyon River Grill. We've eaten here three times, and the menu has always had an interesting variety of dishes that the kitchen executes well. Favorites include the fish & chips, bucatini Bolognese, and their burger. Our preschooler has an egg allergy, and the staff are incredibly professional and competent (and friendly!) when it comes to communicating what does and doesn't have the allergen. This is incredibly rare, and we appreciate them all the more for it. As a bonus, the windy drive down the Yakima River Canyon is gorgeous--especially in fall when the leaves change color.
We recently came here to celebrate our 27th anniversary, but we had a terrible experience. I always order fish, because Chef Kevin Davis is one killer preparer of fish dishes. My husband had halibut, and I had skate wing. My skate wing had goid flavor, but the coating was extremely soggy. Presentation was awful _ just a brown pile. My husband's halibut was overcooked, dry, cold, and was sitting on top of a grilled tomato that had leached into the two spoons of mashed potstoes underneath, creating another soggy mess. My husband didn't get his glass of wine until after we were finished eating. We ordered desert and coffee, but our server never brought the coffee, although it was on our bill. It was so terribly loud that people at other tables were yelling over one another, trying to be heard. Servers were bringing people the wrong drinks, as well. I have no idea what happened to make this night so chaotic, but I refuse to blame Chef Davis - his food has always been impeccable. Our server did take responsibility for the wine and coffee and removed them from our bill, but my impression is that she blamed the kitchen for the food. I say it sat there, waiting to be served. I really wish that Canyon River Grill would make accommodations for people who want a quiet, "intimate setting" to enjoy Chef Davis's food. After all, that's what they advertise, but there is nothing intimate here, whatsoever. Currently, I'm crying inside.
