We were pleasantly surprised to stumble upon Townsend and find a table with our son who was in Philly on business. The ambiance drew us in and the menu looked enticing. Everything we ordered was perfectly prepared from the first course to the dessert. The halibut was delicate with a crisp skin and sauce that melted in your mouth. The portions were perfect, just enough to savor all the flavors and left room for our next course. We will definitely return.

Have you ever eaten a meal, and halfway through you stop and think I am so grateful for being able to eat this......no? Me either, until last night, at Townsend. It was that good. Fois grois mousse, amazing. Sweet, savory and silky, rich and addictive. Escargot: my wife said it was possibly the best dish of her life. Really well balanced sauce and flavors, the fava beans were perfect with it. Steak tartare: rich, decadent, delicious. Scallops: nice sized seared scallops with a citrus sauce and tomatoes. Great flavors, colors, and perfectly seared. Beef marrow bones, mushroom croquet. OMG, first time trying thearrow bones and I will order it any chance I get. Amazing flavors, just spooned it on the fresh sourdough....and closed my eyes in thanks. Ribeye: I'm a steak guy, and I make a lot of steak, bbq etc. It's hard to find a really good steak, IMHO, at a restaurant. This was just a ridiculous beautiful perfectly cooked ribeye, for 2 people. The absolute best steak I've ever had. No doubt. Dessert......the souffle was so smooth and decadent.

An amazing menu from which we were able to set up our own tasting menu in a small and intimate setting that was perfect from beginning to end. Reservation was honored, staff was attentive, and the wine list approachable with some interesting craft cocktails. All courses were excellent. Highly recomend.

Just had dinner there. A++++. Absolutely fantastic. Mrs. had the cauliflower bisque, the monkfish and the chocolate soufflé. She loved every bite of each one. I had the beef tartare (best one I've ever had and I've had many exalted ones) and the branzino in blood orange sauce. Freaking outstanding. Pains me that I haven't been here in years. I put this in my Top 5 Philly dining experiences ever (Vetri, Vernick, Zahav among them). Just wow. And the service was the perfect balance of knowledgeable, fun and passionate. I cannot say enough good things about tonight. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Townsend.
