Finally got to come here and it did not disappoint. It was funny to see how every single table got the fried chicken. Our waiter recommended we use the sauce from the prawns for our chicken and that was the exact right recommendation. That said, the drunken noodles were really special too. Not oily, with a ton of nuanced flavor that you don't usually get for that dish.
Anajak Thai Cuisine started with a longer wait than expected of over an hour, but the experience quickly turned into something special. The owner personally welcomed us, ensuring my family of six was comfortable and well taken care of. His genuine warmth and support made us feel like valued guests, not just customers. The food was nothing short of phenomenal. Each dish was crafted with such care that it left us wanting to explore the entire menu. The combination of incredible food and heartfelt hospitality makes Anajak Thai Cuisine a standout. It’s a place where the atmosphere is as memorable as the dishes, and we can’t wait to return to try more!
We were visiting our son and daughter-in-law in LA and we went here for dinner. They had never been to the place but my son said it always has lines and was highly rated, and they were both dying to try it. Even with reservations, we had to wait a few minutes for our table. We ate outdoors. We had the softshell crab appetizer, the vegetarian panang curry, the fish custard curry, the Thai fried chicken, the mussels, and the crab fried rice. The fish was lost in the custard curry and the sauce was very gelatinous. The panang barely had enough vegetables (eggplant and mushrooms) and the curry was very overpowering. Missing was the sweet subtleness of coconut. The softshell crab appetizer was good, but came with one small crab for about $24. The mussels were delicious. The crab fried rice was OK. But the Thai fried chicken was a hit at the table. It came with 5 pieces and cost $39. Dinner for four without drinks and with tax and tip was $200.
Have known Anjak for over 5 years since it was a nice quiet unassuming neighborhood restaurant. 1. Vibe: The noise inside is overpowering with loud music played on top of that. We had to shout to hear each other. I could hardly wait to get out of the restaurant. 2. Food: Nothing special. There is far better quality and more interesting Thai food in LA for less money such as at Jitlada or Ruen Pair. The food arrived almost immediately so it was prepared ahead of time and reheated and it tasted like it. 3. Wine: AT is noted for a great wine list but AT stores its red wine standing up in the middle of the restaurant, so that the corks will dry out and the wine is subjected to fluctuating temperatures, which harms the wine. The wine on the list is overpriced. I collect fine wine and was told that I couldn’t bring any of my wine to the restaurant. Summary: One of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve had in LA and my foodie companion agreed. I will not be back.
