Good stuff! I really enjoyed my meal. It’s $18-$25 for a sandwich, but you see in the picture you get white a lot of meat. I’ve only ever heard about the sandwiches, but the other food they serve looks pretty good too. I’ll have to come back and try other food options.
We knew we had to try out Manny’s when we went to Chicago. My family loved the variety of authentic food, and we got to try some things that we never had before. Knish is fabulous - such a great texture. That was my first time having it. We had the Ruben sandwich with both corned beef and pastrami, and added the extra meat. I prefer a little bit more sauerkraut on my sandwiches, and even though I asked for more, there wasn’t very much on it. There was plenty of meat, though. My husband and I split the sandwich, and with a potato cake, knish, and soup, we were filled. (We had barely anything to eat before that, so we were very hungry by dinner.) One of the things that I think is really important about food is how you feel after you eat - I felt very good and satisfied. I really liked this place, but I feel like there is a bit of hype around it. It was definitely worth trying, but I did think it was a bit pricey. (Close to chain steakhouse prices.) Oh, and we also did try the Reese’s brownie. Big enough to split, and very good.
Great food. Great atmosphere. First time visiting & would definitely go back to try more things. Attached to the cafeteria is an ice cream parlor with other treats. A lot of variety & very tasty food. In the picture is the Reuben, spare rib, Mac n cheese, white roll. For dessert was chocolate and sea salt caramel ice cream which were both delicious. The richest & creamiest chocolate I’ve ever tasted.
It’s a Cafeteria style place where you point to whatever you want and they’ll portion it, put it on a dish and you out it on your tray. Looks like something from the late 60’s. We were there for lunch in Early August. I believe it was August 4 or 5… I think there is a very small parking lot in-between buildings but we didn’t see it before we fed a metered parking spot right on the main road. We ordered 4 entrees for the four of us, plus a couple of extra dishes so we could all sample stuff. It wasn’t cheap. Four people we paid about $110 for lunch. Roast Beef was about the best thing. But thats not saying much. The Corned Beef and Pastrami are laughable by any NYC or boroughs standards ( even removing Katz from the equation - ANY New York jewish deli is better) the meatloaf is passable. Nothing to write home about and neither is the Matzah soup. I wish I could have said that anything here was worth a fifteen minute drive and paid parking, but it’s just sub-par across the board. I mean, it’s all edible the way my High-School cafeteria’s food was edible. But this cost QUITE a bit more than the lunch money my Mom would send me off to school with. So it’s unacceptable. A lot of room for improvement in that kitchen. A LOT.
