Beautiful and quite elegant canteen, focusing on classic dishes. You could either sit inside or in their heated tent. Located by a lush cute garden, in a calm neighborhood. Very popular, so a reservation is recommended to dine here. Food was good, but slightly overpriced perhaps. Service was polite, but not the warmest nor happiest.
First time here, and can't wait to come back The food was just perfect, drinks were great, the staff was great and attentive everything we ate made our eyes roll back in our heads I was stuffed but I wanted more. Can't wait to go back to London next year just to eat here again. Thank you for making our experience so special!
The service at this restaurant as others have said on Trip Advisor is very poor, our waiter was also particularly rude/obnoxious to us, manipulative, as when we questioned their error in our order, they made it about us, as manipulators do, they did not provide all our starters at the same time, one arrived as other diners finished theirs, they did not return to serve us, proceeding to eyeball our table and evidently asking another to serve us, the wine also did not arrive until mid main course, we needed to prompt the other waiters to bring this to the table, along with other foods/items ordered not served, we felt a nuisance in this place that night. The food was very average for the price, a simple beetroot soup could have been delicious but was akin to being from a tin, another dish, a mince dish again to akin to tinned food, meat in a tin ‘circa the 70s’, on toast this invention felt for the sake of invention, accompanied by over cooked cabbage + all food lacked seasoning/flavour, was cold on serving. The wine was pricey, taste like an average priced ‘supermarket’ bottle of plonk, which is definitely palatable at this price point. The environment is ok, needing to buzz in via an ‘unassuming’ secret-like door, entering into a ‘The Secret Garden’ - Hogson Burnett, 1911) it had a magical feel….could have been ‘magical’ but heed our comments? The dining area outside/inside being ‘canteen’ styling, there is a small area indoors, the other under plastic tenting with heaters, the lighting/general ambiance good, but because of the service and food this place felt pretentious. The bill ‘eye watering’, for what was provided, if this was ‘canteen’ prices, would have been ok and adding an automatic 12.5% service charge an indication they need to do this, not confident in what they deliver, allowing customers to make their own judgement of the service is a sign of a quality establishment. The waiter’s combative behaviour may have been indicative of how they are treated by those ‘above’ and ‘surrounding’ team…..behaviours mimicked, they could have easily diffused the situation with differing means but chose not too? Or needs more experience in this sector, customer service to manage the ‘floor’. It was such a shame we had been here before, and had a lovely time, but it seems it has fallen foul to lack of attention to restaurant, service detail?
First time at this place the whole experience of getting into this wonderful setting was brilliant . Service was average everything we wanted wasn’t available so we opted for pork and lamb dishes , not much flavour in both . My overall opinion is that the expectancy level of the place was high for us they delivered average food and average service . Not for us but at least we can say we tried it .
