I arrived at around 5.30pm and was second in the queue when the place opened at 6pm. The food was great but definitely not worth waiting an hour plus for so I’d recommend coming before opening before the queue starts building. My highlights were the chestnut buns and chilli aubergine with minced pork, the duck pancakes were good but the duck was a little dry. Also, it goes without saying, but this isn’t the kind of place you come for a catch up. You sit, eat and leave.
Waited for 1hr ++, however it was all, worth it. One of the best ducks I've had in London, and all of the other dishes were great as well! I understand that people would think the queue is too much, and its a very timy shop with not much space. We made the mistake of bringing our luggage with us. Staffs were all really nice to us as well! Will I queue and eat there again? Absolutely! However I must say, this is a place focused on the food quality, and fast paced. If you need somewhere to lay back and relax, you would want to avoid coming here. But for the food, 100% worth it!
I feel lucky to have this place on my doorstep and lucky to have got to know the owners a little - they and their staff work incredibly hard and maintain good humour under sometimes tetchy pressure from 'hangry' queues. If you want to be sure of a table , queue from before eve opening at 5.45/6 . Better to go for a late lunch around 2.45pm. Staff meals are between 4.30 ish and 5.45 ish. The dumplings are a major highlight - I'd avoid some of the more cliched dishes as for good reason that is not the kitchen's focus. Why would you come here to have 'sweet and sour chicken' and rice ? It's an insult, delivered well but ... Prawn and chive dumplings on the other hand are a heavenly experience. The salt and pepper squid are always perfect and supremely tender. Recently - feeling a little under the weather - I had the Won Ton soup, something easy to overlook on many menus - it was a gorgeous revelation of subtly flavoursome broth and minced pork and prawn dumplings wrapped in cabbage leaves. It was a joy and a cure ! The pork and watercress soup is a bit hit and miss - the first time I had it I was seduced, the second time it felt a bit watery and uninspired. ( I often feel like that so it is something I recognise and can perhaps forgive) . Be willing to share a table, there are frequent solo diners and you never know who you might meet , at the worst a dull non-English speaker, at best an exuberant Nigerian club DJ who tells you with impeccable taste and a little too much sexism to go and listen to Amapiano ! [You know who you are!] If you can get hold of a menu and order at an off peak time you can get a takeaway - but cash is preferred. A place like this is to be treasured. Wish y'all didn't know about it. j x
Dim Sum Duck is worth the wait. They have the best dumplings I have had in London and the 1/4 duck is also delicious. All of the staff were lovely and try to get you seated as quickly as possible. I would recommend going in a pair to make it quicker. So don’t be put off by the queue, head over the road and grab some tinnies for the wait!!
