This was my first time visiting London (from Canada) and I was blown away to say the least. I have worked in the restaurant business and I know that every position matters. The serving staff were impeccable and the dishes still resonate on my palate. We had a little bit of everything and it’s hard to pick a favourite dish! The lamb was perfectly cooked, the fish melted in your mouth and the homemade sourdough bread is something I’m going to remember forever. The chef even surprised me with a delicious birthday dessert. I know this restaurant will be everyone’s go to. Whether you’re enjoying lunch with your colleagues or a night out with friends, it truly appeals to every demographic. With an ever evolving menu you are in for a surprise. 5 stars across the board!!! Cannot wait to come back as it will be my restaurant of choice every time I visit London.
Brilliant restaurant! The monkfish was so good as was the gnocchi in mushroom sauce. Intimate setting and good service. Definitely would come back soon.
Arrived for a Sunday booking and honestly this was some of the worst service I’ve experienced in Belfast. I should point out that I have visited many times before (both the cloth ear and other merchant restaurants) and always thought the service and food to be excellent. Firstly, our server was disinterested and verged on rude. We asked could we sit at a booth, of which several were empty, and were told they were reservation only. This is news to me having visited before, and in fact on previous occasions have been told they cannot be booked. The service was slow, however when the food came out it actually got worse. The beef short rib 2 of the party ordered was terrible. Fatty to the point that no meat to be found, completely stuck to the bone. Said to the server who looked visibly shocked, said she would sort it. Came back only to tell us that’s the way it’s meant to be - which is utterly ridiculous. 2 of the part then had to eat while we waited on new meals. No desire to stay for dessert or drinks after this. We then had a hard time trying to pay, ultimately having to chase the waitress down. Awful
Visited The Cloth Ear for the second time on a business trip, entertaining guests from Europe. We all thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food, the service was very good and the atmosphere blends high cuisine with a very traditional pub vibe. Overall, loved this and will definitely return. Only downside, like many places in the past 3 years the drinks are ridiculously overpriced. Otherwise would have given 5*
