The food portions were smaller than expected, but the cocktails were exceptional. Our waitress was polite and professional, enhancing the overall experience. While the restaurant itself is more intimate than anticipated, it’s a great spot for starters before heading elsewhere for mains.
A family favourite and for a good reason! The food is always incredible at the Pot Luck Club and we always make sure to visit when we’re back home. On this occasion(maybe the 3rd visit), the start of the meal was slightly tainted for me. The Pot Luck Club isn’t a place we visit every week, it’s a place we visit after we’ve saved enough money (this is all relevant). To start with, our server seemed more interested in the big table of lads and there numerous bottles of French wine than he was us. We’re young but a customer is a customer and it felt as though we didn’t require the same attention for the staff. We ordered and tried some of the wine and soon a bread board with olives came out. I couldn’t remember this as a part of the service but it had been 2 years since I’d last visited. I commented on how large the olives were and ate one. Shortly after, a waiter came over and just took the plate from us(wrong table), no word no explanation. I feel for the poor women who got my eaten olive pit. Some of the waiters wouldn’t make eye contact when bringing the food and explaining the dish which felt as if we were actually a bit of a hassle for them. I always make sure to show gratification and have a chat with the waiters but it didn’t seem that my smile and compliments cut the mustard this time. This is a real shame because I will always recommend the Pot Luck Club to family or friends visiting the country. The overall experience was tainted and distracted from the food. Wwe just unlucky (as unlucky as the woman who ordered olives) and did we just come on an off day?
We booked the pot luck club in Cape Town a month before our holiday without really realising how special it is or how hard it usually is to get a booking. It was an absolute treat. We picked 7 dishes to share and we struggled to finish it all. That and a bottle of decent wine inc servuce came to less than £80. Excellent value for Uk travellers. The food was top notch and super creative. Highlights probably the fish sliders - imagine gourmet version of filet-o-fish!! And beef plus chick pea, goats cheese and Parmesan chips. Stunning food. A must visit.
