Hey, we’re Vicky and Malte! When we visited Maido in 2023, it was ranked the 6th best restaurant in the world. We were beyond excited and, of course, made a reservation in advance. The food was absolutely delicious, and the prices were surprisingly fair for such a renowned place. Maybe one day, we’ll return for the full Maido experience again! As a Best 50 Restaurant in the world. We were amused for the details, taste, service drinks and more. We tried a mix of Japanese-Peruvian fusion dishes with Wagyu, Seafood and more. Highly recommend it.

We came to Lima with very high expectations, as it is known for its exceptional culinary scene, and we have always enjoyed the special flavors and creativity of Peruvian food. On our previous trip, we dined at several renowned restaurants, with Central by Virgilio delivering an extraordinary experience that exceeded our expectations. This time, Maido was at the top of our list, given its reputation and the premium pricing. Unfortunately, it ended up being the only disappointing experience of our trip. We opted for the 14-step 15th-anniversary tasting menu, which should have been a remarkable experience. However, two of the dishes were excessively salty, with one so inedible that all four of us had to send it back. What shocked us even more than the dish itself was the response from our waiter. Instead of acknowledging the issue or offering a solution, we were told, “This is the flavor the chef wants you to have.” As seasoned travelers with the privilege of dining in many Michelin-starred restaurants worldwide, this was the first time we encountered such an unprofessional and dismissive reaction. In summary, Maido was a sad and disappointing experience. It is extremely overpriced for what it offers, with untrained staff and a level of service and execution far below expectations. Unfortunately, it fell far short of the high standards we’ve come to associate with Lima’s world-class dining scene. There are many incredible options in Lima to enjoy the best Nikkei cuisine, but Maido is not one of them.
