The best meal I have had in Japan. Owner and his mother are people I will never forget. Food was phenomenal. I cannot believe this place doesn’t have 1, if not 2 Michelin stars. Variety of delicious courses, many of which include seasonal ingredients. Technique is top tier. I enjoyed the attention to detail in the dishes as well. Beautiful aesthetic all around The personalities were one of a kind and that made this meal truly special. Cannot recommend this place enough. I will literally fly back to Japan to eat here

New potatoes from Mikatagahara It is fried over low heat for a long time. asparagus stems A hidden knife is used to fry it for a long time, so it's steamy and easy to bite into. asparagus head zucchini Evening primrose Okura prototype Mountain mugwort kiss fluffy fried kisses kiss crispy fried kisses pickled spring cabbage Mugwort tempura and new potato tempura rice balls Teriyaki soft-shelled turtle curry They were very particular about the ingredients and had many rare items. It was very delicious, and the owner and his mother had a bright and cheerful personality, so we had a great time. Thank you for the meal.
A good old fashioned sake bar that does excellent food too. Not necessarily for the faint hearted in some cases, but if you go in on the basis of “try it anyway”, you’ll be richly rewarded. Friendly hosts who will patiently explain dishes to you, how to eat them and the sake choices add to the experience. You’re eating and drinking with locals and regulars which should tell you something. Portions aren’t huge but if you’re still hungry pick up a sweet treat on the way home!
This is an excellent sake with tasty unusual foods to Western palates, the first day I had maguro sashimi and sea bream sashimi, a fish that I had loved cooked while in the Mediterranean but had never tried raw, it was delicious. My second visit I had fried tofu with raclette cheese, tuna with leeks in mustard sauce, herring with eggplant, and grilled Norwegian salmon as well as cold fine noodles to top it off. All tasty and new to me. The sake and the service were all good too.
