Food is worth the wait. I personally don’t prefer standing in a queue for simple snacks, but the food that I had was really impressive. Its a small eatery (restaurant) with limited space and always crowded. If you are around Matunga and want something delicious and light to eat, Ram Ashraya should be on your list. Must try the special fruit rabdi❤️

This South Indian restaurant has truly stood the test of time, offering some of the most outstanding food you'll find. The flavors are authentic and delicious, bringing a taste of tradition with every bite. The ambiance is charming and cozy, perfect for a relaxed meal. However, the downside is the long wait time—be prepared to spend some time before you're seated or served. Despite the delay, the food makes it all worth it. A must-visit if you can handle the wait!

The moment we stepped inside, we were greeted by the warm and sweet aroma of ghee. The restaurant is simple and humble, and the decor reflects that same vibe. The place is clean, and while the tables are a little old, they are extremely hygienic. The staff was incredibly welcoming, and the menu was neatly displayed on the wall. Ramashraya is the place to visit if you want to experience authentic South Indian cuisine. With its 85-year-old legacy, this restaurant has earned its reputation as one of the busiest spots in town. We were lucky to get seated within 5 minutes, even though the usual wait time is around 10 minutes. We ordered Pudina Batata Vada, Upma, Pineapple Sheera, Podi Idli, Filter Coffee, and Butter Idli. The Butter Idli was exceptionally soft. It literally melted in the mouth. The Podi Idli was a burst of flavors, with the podi having a heavenly touch full of the essence of carefully blended dals. The Pudina Batata Vada was unlike anything I have had before. The pudina added an aromatic flair to the batata vada. The Pineapple Sheera was absolutely delightful. It was light, soft, and bursting with chunks of pineapple. I appreciate how they avoided adding dry fruits and let the pineapple’s natural flavor shine. As for the coffee, I am not a fan of Filter Coffee, but my friend, who loves it, found it perfectly brewed and just right. The portion sizes were perfect for one person, and the pricing was reasonable. They also have a separate section of Indian sweets near the billing counter, which adds a nice touch. This is a perfect place for all South Indian food lovers. Don’t miss this gem if you are in the area! And, if you visit, I highly recommend trying the Podi Idli and Pineapple Sheera - both dishes were absolute standouts! Quality - 5/5 Quantity - 4.8/5 Service - 4.5/5 Price - ₹400 for 2 people For more mouthwatering food content, don't forget to follow @chefvaidehipathare on Instagram!

After an early morning holy trip to Lalbaug Cha Raja, Parel (Ganesh Utsav 2024 starts in a day) and the Siddhivinayak Temple, Prabhadevi, we reached here about 7AM. And the place was full! ‘TasteAtlas’ - the experiential travel online guide for traditional food - lists the upma and pineapple sheera of Ram Ashraya. We obviously had both these which were excellent. We also had the pongal, masala dosa, rasam vada, podi idli and coffee (mandatory). Surprise find was the Mysore pad - too delicious. Prices are reasonable and we paid INR 240 per person for a really heavy breakfast. The place is for early risers as it opens at 5AM. This was timed with the start time of the first tram when they were in service in old Bombay.
