The restaurant was perfect in every way that makes a restaurant great. The staff was professional, made great effort to make our time enjoyable, not just by the speed of service, but also by communication. We were introduced to the food and provided interesting information about it. The staff was also very friendly and even made effort to wish us a great meal in our native language. Lastly, the food was delicious, one of the best meals I've had in a restaurant in quite some time. 10/10
Only if you are not in a hurry. The location is great, the food was good, however we waited 1h - 1:30 minutes to receive it despite there was not heavy “traffic “. Although we asked multiple times what is happening for them it seemed normal to wait 1h- 1h 30 minutes for food to be served. Overall the service was strange, our male waiter was making us feel uncomfortable , like we had strange questions that we should not ask.
We only had a day in Tallinn’s Old Town, but I’m glad we got to try Rataskaevu16 while we were there. The food was delicious, the service was great, and the setting was charming and cozy. We ate a late lunch there, and presumably because we visited in the off-season and were eating a little late, the restaurant wasn’t too crowded. We had the whole upstairs to ourselves. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable, and he thoughtfully brought my 7-year old some colored pencils and paper so he could draw while we waited for lunch. I had the braised elk roast for my main course, which was delicious and had some unique flavors. Later, I mentioned to our tour guide where we’d eaten, and she said “Oh you picked a good one. That’s my favorite restaurant in Old Town.” I told her I understood why.
Our first night in Tallinn and TripAdviser signposted this restaurant as one to visit. The TA ratings didn’t disappoint. Set back in the old town with a lovely rustic feel. ‘Cosy’ is the term. Starters: lamb soup (sounds basic - small bites of lamb, mushroom, with a subtle yet spicy kick which tasted fabulous), and a salmon dish with a lovely honey mustard sauce. The main event was complimented with a good red wine: beef tenderloin (cooked medium) with a parsnip rosti and a very well balanced jus…….a succulent and tasty chicken fillet (minor feedback - more chicken breast and less lentils please). We had to finish with deserts of chocolate cake (a delightful fondant) and Estonian cheese. A lovely two hours. We must mention Viivika, who looked after us and deserves a huge thanks, in addition to all the other staff. A lovely person who helped deliver a great experience. Tanan teid.
