There is no better way to experience a country than through its food. La Puerta Falsa delivers that experience through every bite! Come hungry as the dishes are so filling and delicious with a large portion sizes. We tried all different types of their local cuisine, but it was the tamale that stood out from the crowd. The first reaction is that it was a huge tamale wrapped in plant leaves compared to a traditional corn husk tamale. This created a beautiful aroma on the nose while allowing the chicken to remain decently moist, falling off the bone with every bite. The restaurant is small and charming. If you have trouble with stairs, try to get a seat on the first level as the stairs can feel a bit steep. We did not experience the shoulder to shoulder eating as we came near closing, but with no doubt when the restaurant is rocking, serving out tasty meals, expect to be shoulder to shoulder eating history. Come through and be the judge for yourself, and look forward to trying one of the oldest restaurants in Bogota. I would recommend to any visiting Bogota.
I don’t typically like tamales but this is the best I’ve had. Someone said it’s like chicken soup wrapped inside and I’d say that’s an accurate description. It’s moist, flavorful, and fragrant, would highly recommend. The soup was very nice too.
The oldest restaurant in Bogota. This was a nice experience with my couple and friends. Ajiacos, Tamales, Envueltos, Longaniza and typical desserts are very good options. There are not so many dishes but those are very tasty and fast served. The space is small but compensated with very good attention and the knowledge of being seated in the oldest place.
La Puerta Falsa is the oldest restaurant in Bogota and possibly Colombia, serving customers since 1816. Small restaurant, maybe 25 seats, known for its snacks and local dishes, spawning its own food culture referred to as comida santafereña. It’s on a narrow street in the Santa Fe neighbourhood, which has been around since 1538. The restaurant’s name – The False Door – came about because of its proximity to the false door at the Cathedrale Primada.
