This is my 2nd visit back to Shangrila Pudong and I was really looking forward to it. But unfortunately the experience was not as what I expected. So firstly the check in staff cannot speak proper English. So she could not understand that I have 2 bookings for 3 rooms. The check in time took 40 minutes…..and ultimately the check in process needs 3 staffs to do the task.. One day later, the manager called to apologize which I think is a nice gesture. The breakfast buffet has wide spread and also zillion people. If you go there after 8 am, you may need to queue. Bed is nice. Room is decent. Note : if you book the room with ‘river view’, this means river view building and NOT river view room.
There are two different towers in the Shangri-La. I got to stay at the "old tower" and boy it felt old. The room had a musty smell to it. Facilities and design from 25years ago! Room service was extremely poor as a lot of companies use this hotel for their team outings and I dont think the hotel manages the demand well. I stayed for 5 days for work, and I would definitely choose the Ritz Carlton which is next door over this hotel. The location and view are great. Right next to the river, in the heart of the financial district. It does have a fantastic roof top restaurant with great food.
Great value for the price paid. Really nice buffet options with many, meat, vegetarian, seafood and sushi included. Desserts were also great!
What a fantastic lunch buffet. We came in from the seafood side and were shown the drink area. We didn't realize that the drink area was in the middle of the buffet. So after we basically had a meal of salad and seafood we began over with beef and all the other great things. Our table was kept clean and we were well taken care of.
