Amazing! Don't come expecting kung pao chicken cause it's not that type of Sichuan. This is an obsessive chef making the most out of traditional sichuanese flavors but exploring outside the traditional recipes and ingredients, and he does a great job at it. You can read about the chef's obsession with ingredients and discipline in cooking and it very much shows in the food. Thoroughly deserves its two stars! I do have two complains that are not about the food: It feels a bit rushed. It should have been a 2.5-3 hr meal but it's condensed into 1.5 hrs. This seems to be the norm for YZL. Second, it was hot inside. I told the staff twice and they did nothing about it.

Not sure why but my other account was unable to post my review here... It was not worth it. Overall, the service and the food are quite a departure from the other Michelin starred restaurants. I am talking about the range from Osteria Francesco in Moderna to the soy sauce chicken in Singapore. The only thing is, it is a failed attempt to mix the Non-traditional Chinese cuisine with Sichuan flavour. I can taste the soup and sauce has similar taste you can find from the famous CPH restaurant NOMA and the Swedish restaurant Fäviken. However, I do not taste the harmony and joy the first two restaurants have brought to me. I felt tension, discomfort and confusion. I really hope my hometown Michelin-starred restaurant can be truly exceptional.

This restaurant does not even look like one from the outside. It appears to be someone home and you have to knock on the dark dimly light home and street. You be escorted to the private room for your party. The wait staff will present the food as per the set menu you have pre-ordered. There is a Chinese n English menu. The chef pride itself in serving quality ingredients with a touch of finesse in its presentation. Nothing too spicy as we can’t take too much of it. The food presented was sufficient and lasted about 1.5hrs. The food was excellent but take note that shark fin is offered in its high end set menu. Overall, highly recommended dining place where food is the main star. The staff did not offer any wine or tea menu as the focus was on the chef’s food. You can bring your own alcohol as there are both decanter, wine, whisky glasses in the room. To make a reservation, you have to ask the hotel concierge and there is a 50% non refundable deposit for your booking. There are several set menu starting from 1700 rmb to 2380 rmb.

After a 1300 rmb per guest meal at this famed restaurant: Anthony Bourdain, FoodRanger, TripAdvisor etc. I thought about what I like and dislike about our dining experience. First the dislikes: ambiance is totally lacking in a private room with ceiling fluorescent lighting; efficient but impersonal service, our meal was served from the pre-meal tea to desert within an hour; food quality, taste, and presentation were really ordinary in this city famed for its great food, of all our meals during our 7 days in Chengdu this meal is probably the least satisfying, and this meal cost more than all our other meals combined !! And the last rub? At the end of meal we ask our lady server to call a taxi to take us back to the hotel. She replied that the restaurant do not call taxi for guests, and suggest that we can easily walk to the end of street to find a taxi. What we like about our dining experience? You guessed it, not much, except that we dined at this famed restaurant. Perhaps our expectations were a bit higher after having mostly great meals at very reasonable costs in Chengdu. Oh, I should add that my wife had high praise for the sea cucumber, one of the best sea cucumber dish she has ever had.
