Our 1st experience at Hua's Restaurant. I am very impressed with their service and food presentation . It is one of its kind high-end chinese cuisine . Lovely ambience , very nice restaurant
Delicious Peking duck in Beijing. You'll have to take a number and wait in front of the restaurant for a table (at least we had to - on a saturday night, don't know about about other days). The peking duck comes with vegetables, sauces and pancakes (it does not say that in the menu, just so you know as there wasn't anyone speaking English) and was real good. A chef comes to your table and cuts the duck into pieces in front of you. One duck plus some appetizers was enough for three persons.
I felt that presentation came first at this restaurant, followed by reputation (our signature dish), service, convenience and finally flavor/execution. Peking duck was ok, but I’ve had better. They used a bunch of cutesy side dishes and sauces to ramp up the wow factor. However, it did anything but wow me. Lots of crispy fat, so if that’s your thing, give it a try. The big disappointment was the cabbage, also a “signature dish”. Flavor was decent, but that texture, or lack of, reminded me of eating mushy, soggy, boiled Brussel sprouts. YUCK! Find a mom and pop shop for a fraction of the price and way better execution. Let the tourists have Hua’s.
Dinner was good. I liked the tasty Chinese cucumber soup, tasty beef cubes, tea varieties, and the after-dinner performance, with a mix of entertaining performers.
