Go for the tasting menu. We enjoyed every course. We had fried stuffed olives, fried octopus salad, charcoal udon, 24-hr coppa, alongside items not on the menu -- silky creamy omelet with king crab, Japnese scallop ceviche in ponzu and mustard, and hojicha zabaglione on passion fruit mochi in a passion fruit white chocolate shell. Every course boasts incredible textures and bold flavors. Would definitely recommend.
This is quite possibly the best restaurant I’ve ever been to. I don’t know if this is the typical experience, but whenever I go to a fine dining restaurant I end up enjoying the amuse-bouche and appetizers more than the entrees. Maybe I’ve just had bad luck. But not this place — every single dish was executed to perfection, and the mains were the best I’ve had of their kind: the fondue omelette, the pastas, and the fried fish were absolute standouts. The truffle fondue omelette in particular blew my mind. I can’t recommend this place enough!
The restaurant is very pretentious and staff acts very entitled. Understandable, perhaps, with a Michelin star to their name. They have a very short printed menu. The server sort of brushed it aside to tell us about the Omakase experience. There was no menu for it and it was totally chef's choice. We have really enjoyed meals like that in the past, but we were not super hungry. The server emphasized that we should go with the Omakase experience which started at $150/person but he added that we just tell him how much more ("$300, $350/pp or as high as you would like to go") we would like to spend and they will take it from there. When we elected to order off of the menu, we suddenly felt like second class citizens. The food was okay, especially if you are crazy about radishes and endive. Next time in Vancouver we will enjoy the amazing Asian food I keep hearing about.
Always a fantastic experience. Great room, fabulous service, fantastic food and beverage. A definite favorite in Vancouver.
