Loved the patio and the indoor/outdoor dining experience. It did take some time for our server to come around once we were seated. Heirloom tomato salad was fresh, spicy and seasoned. Roasted chicken had crispy skin, juicy meat and the peri peri sauce was delicious.
I’ve heard a lot about this place but haven’t had a chance to visit until now. Walked in on a Friday evening for dinner. They have a nice outdoor patio and people were eating out there with their dogs by them. I didn’t expect to not like this place very much. The food was a miss for me in a lot of ways. The charcuterie board has an assortment of cheeses and cured meats, all of which were pretty salty. Didn’t find much on the same dish that balanced it out. You could order bread and butter as an optional add-on, which many restaurants offer for free. The bread was so tough to bite through and not warmed up which didn’t help the toughness. Also had the corn croquettes which were fine. Not really sure what the prosciutto on top added to it though. The steak frites was surprising. When you see a dish named that, you expect to be eating steak with fries. They cut their potatoes in this pile of really fine julienne. I don’t get the intent behind that. It’s not easy to pick up and bring to your mouth. It also doesn’t do much for me paired with the dry steak (asked to be cooked medium rare). I didn’t really get anything from my experience that would make me want to come back considering all of the other dining options in the city.
Eek. What “an experience” - very pretty from the outside - was there as a group of 8 and forced to price fixe menu with no idea what was being served until it came and I asked what it was. It was really difficult to make out what we were eating Overall felt like the restaurant had an aire of “you are lucky to be here so we will give you what we want to give you and you will have to pay for it like we ask you to pay for it” Really really suggest you avoid this place unless you want to experience one of Toronto’s worst experiences Thank goodness the company I was with more than made up for all else FOOD - lighting inside is a neon orange green. I can’t explain it. It blinds all the colours so you truly cannot make out what it is that you are eating, the quality of it or which parts are burnt - they chat a lot of things. The menu we had did at least - the only good item I liked was the pickled kolrabi, olives and polenta - they served us : charcuterie ; chicken ; a salad; polenta; olives; pickles; shrimp; some fish dish I couldn’t make out; a tomato salad with something on top; beef tartare with a raw egg yolk (this is so very particular and they didn’t ask about this); bread and charred bread (with the beef tartare) - i ate: - olives, - some cheese, - some charcuterie, - chicken (bit into a few bones; nice sauce), - shrimp (hard to clean in that light) - polenta - the two salads - fish (one bit and set rest aside) CUSTOMER SERVICE - did not have any choice to the food options - forced into price fixe - some servers didn’t know what was being served and had to come back to say what it was - wasn’t allowed to pay separately but rather only one credit card for the entire bill - desert wasn’t part of the price fixe (which was already steep) - napkins were thin given the amount of food you’d have to pick at with your hands - most tables have only stools with no backs for a two hour sit down - pace of food coming out was good Booking was made online, confirmed quickly Called in to add one person Was told we’d have to sign a contract and give cc Wasn’t able to sign (was driving), and gave CX When told we had to pay with ne cc they said “it was in the contract”
Hostess was overwhelmed and let multiple people cut the line to get in if their friends were already inside. Communal high top tables with no backs or hooks under the table for coats or bags. Extremely slow service at all points of the night. Worst cheese plate I have ever had....from presentation to lack of info on what cheeses they were. Bad service involved cheese plate coming before the drinks and 10 minutes between all 4 of us getting our first round of drinks service. Several drinks got cold waiting on the others. Only nice thing was the plants and that you're able to make a reservation. Run, don't walk to another restaurant! You have been warned.
