This restaurant is the definition of classic French fine dining, from the menu to the décor. Opened in 1963 by Chef Bernard Goethals, this is the oldest restaurant offering French cuisine in Salvador. The current chef is Laurent Rezette, a Belgian who has lived in Salvador for over 20 years and has worked in many upscale restaurants. The restaurant's decoration compares favorably with the best restaurants I have visited, but the place feels like a casual setting, as you are treated as if you have arrived home. Our waiter Nelson was excellent. The menu is the most classic you are going to come across, which I enjoyed, because you will usually find one or 2 items on a menu, but not an entire menu. Foie gras, quiche, soufflé, coq au vin and crêpes Suzette are just some of the items they have to offer. The restaurant has a beautiful view of the Bay of All Saints (“Bahia de Todos os Santos”), which was discovered by Amerigo Vespucci in 1501. They are open for lunch and dinner, and I am sure that whenever you eat here, you will have a wonderful meal and experience, but if you have to choose, I recommend making a lunch reservation, so you can enjoy the view too.

Amazing food! Intimate setting with a very fine selection of high end french cousins. The view of the bay is amazing and complements the view of the delicacies being served. It is expensive but well worth it!

O lugar é muito bonito! Atendimento impecável! Vista deslumbrante! O problema foi o menu do restaurantweek que não nos agradou😕 A entrada estava ok. Acabamos pedindo os 4, o mesmo prato principal, um fettuccini de crevettes que não estava gostoso! O molho com gosto de caldo knorr! Deixei o massa no prato! Comi apenas o camarão que estava ok, mas nada demais! Será que colocaram um chef reserva para o menu do restaurantweek?

Voltamos ao Chez Bernard depois de passarmos o Reveillon. Dessa vez, a experiência foi péssima! Reservamos com antecedência e pagamos 300 reais pela reserva. Ao chegarmos, ficamos vinte minutos esperando o manobrista.Ao entrarmos no restaurante, não fomos direcionados à nossa mesa. Ficamos mais trinta minutos esperando num lobby quente e lotado. Ao chegarmos à mesa,pedimos um couvert que só chegou trinta minutos depois. Começamos a almoçar depois das 16 h ! Quase desmaiamos de fome! Na mesa ao lado, um rapaz gritava e gravava vídeos aos berros. Nada foi feito! Nem sequer chamaram a atenção! Definitivamente o Chez Bernard está completamente decadente. Isso tudo aconteceu no Dia das Mães!
